How To Get Rid Of Love Handles Fast For Women

Written by April

There is something rather cute about the phrase "love handles" but if you find yourself with your very own pair then you might not find it so cute.  At first they might seem a rather cuddly but if you leave them for much longer they can start to get pretty ugly and even embarrassing.

Love handles can be a problem in both men and women and not only can they look unsightly, they can be an indicator of poor health.  Basically when you get love handles it's because you're eating more calories than your body is burning up.

Centuries ago when the world was very different, the fatty store was nature's way of getting through the harsh times when it was a cold and there was a lack of food.  However these days we can get as much food as we like and we really don't have to worry about food shortages.  Therefore it's no wonder that so many people are carrying more fat than they should.

So how do you get rid of them?  Well, you have to do the same things as when you want to get rid of fat from any part of your body.  You need to eat a healthier diet and exercise more.  You could do one or the other however reducing your calories as well as burning up more calories is by far the best approach.

A lot of people when trying to lose weight simply eat less however what they don't realize is that at the same time as doing this they might be losing muscle.  Simply going onto weighing scales won't show this fact up however if you have your body fact percentage measured with callipers you will find out the truth.

You really don't want to lose muscle because not only does muscle keep us strong, it also burns off calories at a much greater rate than fat ever can.  So hopefully you will see the benefit of exercising in addition to making changes in your diet.

Of course, if you are the sort of person who wants everything ASAP and doesn't want to work for it then you could go under the knife to have your love handles removed.  This should be a last resort because there is always a risk of complications with any type of surgery.

Also, if you exercise and eat well you will improve your over all health and well being.  You will have more energy, suffer fewer illnesses and generally feel much better for it.

If you have love handles you probably have excess fat in other parts of your body too so general exercising is a good idea.  Aerobics, weight lifting, cycling, swimming and such like are all going to help you reduce your weight.

How Can A Man Lose Weight Fast?

Written by April

If you are a man that is looking to lose weight fast you need to understand that the majority of men simply go about it the wrong way.  If you've been trying to lose weight in the past you are probably guilty of making common mistakes too.  There are loads of reasons you might want to lose weight fast, perhaps you have a wedding or vacation coming up and you want to look your very best.  Anyhow, here are some useful tips for you to follow:-

Make sure you eat and don't starve yourself.  Sure, you could probably lose a load of weight very fast by doing this but all too often it's only going to make you lose muscle and water weight rather than fat.  When dieting and exercising to lose weight it's fat that you want to get rid of - not muscle!  So make sure you eat at regular intervals.  Small meals 5 times a day is much better than 2 huge meals a day.  Also avoid eating before going to bed.  People who stop doing this bad habit really notice a big difference by eating their evening meal at 5 or 6 pm rather than 10 or 11.

The food you eat is obviously going to be a big factor in losing weight.  You want to get rid of the junk foods such as pizza and burgers because they are full of simple carbs and fat.  Instead you want to be eating fruit and veg plus brown rice, chicken and fish.  There have also been studies to show that eating soup makes you feel full for longer and those who eat soup find themselves eating less overall than those who don't eat soup.

A lot of people think that all types of fat is really bad and that fat makes you fat.  This is simply not true.  Our bodies need fat in order to function properly.  Good fats include olive oil, fish oil, walnuts, avocados and sunflower seeds.  Of course, if you ate too much good fat then it would cause you to put on weight but you would have to eat an awful lot of it!

If you are the sort of person who drinks a lot of sodas, coffee and beer then you should try and cut back on these and drink water instead.  Our bodies need about 2 litres of water for hydration and also to metabolize food into energy.  You can also try to drink teas such as green tea, redbush in addition to fruit teas.  They simply give you a bit more variety.

Most people also have constipation to some degree or other.  If you aren't doing a "number 2" at least once a day then you really need to increase the amount of fiber in your diet.  It doesn't have to be difficult to do.  Brown rice, quinoa, baked beans along with nuts and seeds can really help flush you system out of this unwanted matter.  Apparently John Wayne had 40 pounds of waste in his colon whilst Elvis had 60 pounds!

Of course, don't forget to exercise.  You will want to build up your muscle levels because muscle burns up more calories than fat does.  Also, muscle simply looks great.  There are loads of different things you can do to exercise but lifting weights is perhaps the most popular.  If you don't want to lift weights you could go hill walking, swimming or cycling.

A lot of men who want to loose weight fast seem to think that there's a magic bullet they can take and suddenly all their flab will vanish.  It just doesn't work this way and ultimately losing weight is about eating healthier and exercising more.

How Much Should I Weigh For My Age?

Written by Douglas Bernard

How much should I weigh for my age? This is a question that many people do not know the answer to. As a rule, it is important to stay within a healthy weight range. Obesity is a huge problem for many people who live in the United States. If a person’s weight becomes too high then they are at risk for obesity related illnesses and medical complications.

Calculating your body mass index is important to finding out how much you should weigh. You can calculate your body mass index online with a BMI calculator. All you have to do is input you gender, age, height, and current weight. A BMI of nineteen or below is typically a healthy body mass index range to be in.

Most body mass calculators that are available online will give out the specified ranges for being average weight, overweight, and obese. This is based on the national percentiles for the height, age, weight, and gender specified.

Having a body mass index that is too low can cause medical issues. It is important not to be too thin because this can damage the body’s vital organs. Many people who have too low of a body mass index have eating disorders. Talking to a doctor or licensed dietician can help people who have body mass indexes that are too high or too low. Medical intervention is often necessary to protect the body from becoming damaged from malnutrition.

Young adults under the age of eighteen can have a hard time being within the right weight range for their heights. This is because during puberty the human body goes through many phases and growth spurts.

Some people go through chubbier phases because they are going through puberty. As children get older, their hormones adjust to the levels that they will be during adulthood. Genetics play a big role in a person’s overall body type and weight. People who have parents who are overweight or obese are more likely to have issues maintaining a healthy weight.

It is important to weigh yourself first thing in the morning before eating and drinking anything. Clothing and jewelry should also be taken off before stepping on the scale. This will make the weight be more accurate.

Maintaining a healthy weight takes a lot of discipline and hard work by a person. Eating a balanced diet, exercising, and consuming less than two thousand calories per day is essential to maintaining a good weight.

Stomach Bypass Surgery Diet Supports Weight Loss

Written by Douglas Bernard

When a patient opts for stomach bypass surgery in order to lose weight, their stomach is reduced in size and reconnected to their small intestine.  This procedure facilitates fast weight loss because the newly reconfigured stomach helps the patient to feel fuller more quickly after eating a small meal in addition to physically not being able to eat large amounts of calories. Stomach bypass surgery, which reduces the stomach's volume from 32 ounces to roughly one ounce, can only be successful as a weight loss tool if the patient follows stomach bypass surgery diet guidelines outlined by their physician or nutritionist.

The stomach bypass surgery diet represents a new way of eating for the patient, one that focuses on consuming foods that are high in protein, yet low in calories, fat, sugar and fiber. Immediately following surgery, the recommended dietary choices highlight proteins such as red meat, pork and chicken or turkey served without the skin.  Protein consumption right after surgery is very important since protein helps the muscles of the body heal. Seafood, eggs and cottage cheese, all healthy food choices high in protein and low in fat, are also recommended on the stomach bypass surgery diet.

Foods containing sugar are restricted on the stomach bypass surgery diet because they represent empty calories for the body while healing, they are high in fat and counteract the objective to loose weight, in addition to triggering dumping syndrome after surgery, causing uncomfortable cramping and nausea in most patients.

High fat and fried foods are eliminated from the menu using the stomach bypass surgery diet because fats are difficult for the body to process once the stomach has been greatly reduced in size. Too much fat can cause such adverse reactions as heartburn, diarrhea and nausea in stomach bypass patients.

Foods high in fiber are eliminated from the patient's menus following stomach bypass surgery because the shrunken stomach no longer can handle such bulky foods and the amount of stomach acid to digest them is also curtailed due to the new size of the stomach.

Because the amount of food allowed is very small and the variety of foods allowed on the stomach bypass surgery diet is quite limited, it is essential that stomach bypass patients supplement their diets with an assortment of daily vitamins and minerals as recommended by a nutritionist. The core of these include Vitamin B-12, calcium, iron and folate, all of which can become deficient in a stomach bypass patient's body rather quickly while on the stomach bypass sugery diet.

It is also essential that stomach bypass patients drink enough water throughout the day while observing the guidelines of the stomach bypass surgery diet in order to keep the body well hydrated.

Written by Strathy

These days everyone is constantly worried about lowering their cholesterol. This is fine and all, but most people go about it the wrong way. They eat what they want, then on the backside try to lower their cholesterol. This is just plain nuts. Instead, try reading this article and lowering your cholesterol by not eating high cholesterol foods. This article is designed to aid you in the fight high cholesterol by arming you with the knowledge that you need to know in order to win the battle.

Let's be real. If you take a Twinkie and deep fry it, then the Twinkie is not responsible for your high cholesterol. You are. It would be nice if we could just eat what we wanted and when we go to bed at night all our weight problems and bad cholesterol would just melt away. However, we live in the land of reality and that just is not going to happen. We live in a land where we are constantly surrounded by high cholesterol foods. They are in our face everyday, begging for us to eat them. There is no way to remove them from our surroundings.

Therefore, it is up to us to avoid high cholesterol foods. The first thing that you need to do is sit down with your doctor and the two of you need to make a list of foods that you need to avoid in your daily diet. You will be surprised that when you sit down and start to go over the list that many foods you thought were safe actually are more harmful to you then you would think.

Now, after you have a clear picture of what foods you can and cannot eat you will need to sit down and decide which ones that you absolutely must have in your diet and which ones you can eliminate altogether. The truth is that it is almost impossible for you to completely eliminate all bad foods from your diet, unless you go on a diet of boiled grass. You will need to consume some high cholesterol foods. The trick is to balance the good with the bad and find a common medium that you and your doctor can both agree on.

I hope that this article has been of some usefulness to you in trying to eliminate the high cholesterol foods from your diet, or at the very least cut down on them drastically. High cholesterol foods are nice to enjoy every now and again but remember as with all things that are enjoyable, moderation is key.

The ABCs of Weight Loss

Written by Investor Jim

As many know, weight loss can be a tricky task. You try to do it every now and then. Sometimes, you’re successful and sometimes you’re not. There is no magic formula to weight loss. The steps can be different per person. However, there are basics that each person can apply as they try to lose weight.

One of the basics of weight loss is exercise. Regardless of how much weight you need to lose or where you are physically, you need exercise to lose weight. Beginners in exercising notice this immediately. The minute they get into regular workouts, they shed off pounds that have been holding them back for years. It can be harder for those who have been exercising for years. The secret to getting off this exercise plateau and burning off more pounds is to jolt your system. You can do this by varying your exercises and challenging your body more. If you run, introduce sprints into your session. This “shocks” your system, making you burn more while running and after. Weight training is also necessary. When you lift weights, you build muscles that constantly require energy from calories and stored fat.

And of course, your diet also counts when you are trying to lose weight. Like they always say, you are what you eat. You can’t expect to trim down if you keep on eating a diet that’s heavy on bad cholesterol. Strive for a balanced diet, and always eat in moderation. Everything else will follow.

Get Real When It Comes To Weight Loss

Written by Investor Jim

Dieters who target to shed weight and go from a size 10 to 3 often give up, disappointed and frustrated. Because really, who can go from 10 to 3 without sawing off a body part or two? Such goals are fantasies because weight loss is not an easy thing to do. Advertisers may say it’s easy and instant just to sell a new program. In reality, it takes time, dedication, a balanced diet and regular exercise to get to your ideal weight.

In terms of dieting, there are several diet options for you. The best, of course, is a balanced diet made up of complex carbs, lean protein and good fat. For those who seriously want to shed some weight, before shifting to a regular balanced diet, they can cut off some carbohydrates from their diets first. Carbs are the initial source of energy as they are “fast-burners.” When you cut off carbs, you teach your muscles to get energy from elsewhere. They turn to stored fat for this. once you’re used to a low-carb diet, try to reintroduce the complex carbs – but always do so in moderation. Likewise, make it a habit not to stuff yourself when you’re eating. Push yourself off the table before you feel full.

When you add regular exercise into this mix, then surely, you’re on your way to weight loss. Exercise works the muscles. This makes muscles require more energy to function. Thus, they end up burning more calories and stored fat.

How Fast Can You Lose Weight And Stay Healthy?

Written by David Wilson

With obesity becoming ever more prevalent in modern society, more and more people are turning to dieting and other various ways to lose weight. However, most people are looking for a quick, easy solution and these aren’t always the best route to take. When losing weight, it’s important to remember to stay healthy, too.

If a person loses weight too fast, it can have adverse effects on their health. A lot of people try crash diets and claim to lose large amounts of weight in a short amount of time. While these claims may be true, these people fail to realize the result of their actions. As soon as they alter their habits again they run the risk of putting the weight right back on just as quickly and, in most cases, putting on more than what they lost.

Remember, it’s important to lose weight at a healthy rate. Set a long term weight loss goal and try to attain it in little steps rather than trying to lose everything all at once in the short term. Losing weight at a slower rate means it’s more likely to stay off.

Set realistic weekly weight loss goals. Healthy weight loss takes time, but the results last longer. Obese people may lose about 3-4 pounds a week without adverse affects, but a person that is of a somewhat average weight or slightly overweight (around 140-200) should not expect to lose more than two pounds a week. More realistically, an average sized person should only lose between 1 and 1.5 pounds.

If a person tries to lose weight too fast, they hit an occurrence that most people know as the weight loss plateau. Human bodies are specifically built to conserve calories in order to survive in the case of food shortage. If a person takes in too few calories or burns too many, their body may accommodate for the loss by slowing their metabolism in order to prevent the loss of too many calories. Those people who exercise and cut calories only slightly in order to lose weight at a slower pace run into this occurrence less often and generally at a less severe level.

Besides a rebound of weight, those who lose weight too fast may also experience loose skin and gallstones. The skin is naturally elastic and will shrink naturally if weight is lost at a slow pace. However, if weight is lost too rapidly then the skin does not get a chance to shrink. Also, rapid weight loss increases a person’s risk of developing gallstones.

One to two pounds per week may not seem like a lot of weight to lose, but it’s certainly worth it in the end. Just remember, slow and steady wins the race.

Foods To Lose Belly Fat

Written by April

It seems that there's a product coming onto the market everyday claiming all sorts of things related to your health and weight loss.  It might be some form of exercise equipment, pills, teas or even food.  Sometimes there's so much talk of so-called "super foods" that's we lose track of good wholesome and nourishing foods that people have eaten for millennia.  Let’s have a look at some of the different foods that claim to be great for weight loss.

Acai Berries

You can buy these from a number of different outlets in either fresh, frozen, dried, liquid or pill form.  Lot’s of people are now taking them in pill form however you can cook with them and are great in smoothies, yoghurt and also ice cream.  In addition to looking for foods that help you lose weight from your belly, you should also look at foods that can give your health a boost.  Acai berries contain loads of antioxidants which are really important for your body as they help to combat free radicals that can damage your cells.  Acai berries are even more packed with ant-oxidants than blue berries and pomegranates.

So how do these acai berries help you lose weight from your stomach and other parts of your body anyway?  First off there’s the issue of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs).  Acai berries have a lot of both omega 3 and omega 6 and these are really good for general health and weight loss.  Then there’s fiber which helps your digestion.  The next thing that acai berries have are amino acids which is what our bodies use to build tissues within the body and to repair itself.

Goji Berries

There’s not a health food store in the land that doesn’t stock goji berries.  They have really become very popular these days as a health food and weight loss-aid.  Just like the acai berries, the goji berries contain fiber, amino acids, vitamins and antioxidants.  If you buy them dried you can eat them as a snack whilst you are working instead of a chocolate bar.  Alternatively you can buy goji berry juice, often referred to as Himalayan Goji Berry Juice.

Wheatgrass

There are different ways that you can take wheatgrass and one of them is to use the dehydrated form.  Basically it expands in your stomach therefore leaving you less hungry.  You can take the fresh wheatgrass juice which contains loads of enzymes, vitamins and minerals; however it doesn't expand in your stomach, which means some people say that the fresh wheatgrass isn't as effective for weight loss.  However others say that because wheatgrass can help to normalize the thyroid gland, this can help with weight loss too.

Sea Kelp

Kelp has been quite a popular weight loss product for some time and most health foods shops will sell it.  Apparently Sea Kelp helps with weight loss because it contains iodine which is good for improving the thyroid's function.  However there are people who say that there is no deficiency in iodine in the Western diet therefore extra intake of it isn't needed.  Now, if you like to be a bit more adventurous with your cooking, you could try and include kelp and other sea vegetables into your diet.  It's very popular in different Asian dishes and it certainly doesn't seem to do them any harm.  You can buy dried kelp from health food and Asian shops plus on the internet.  You then rehydrate it and add it to soups, stews and other foods.

Hoodia Gordonii

If you are going to be buying faddy foods for weight loss you really need to be very careful about this product.  Hoodia Gordonii is actually a cactus grown in South Africa which works as an appetite suppressant.  The main problem with it is that there are many unscrupulous companies who are only interested in taking your money.  Often what they sell doesn't even contain what they state on the label.  It might be that the wrong part of the plant is used; not enough is used or that they don't contain any Hoodia Gordonii at all!  Now, if you were to actually go to South Africa and eat a piece of fresh Hoodia Gordonii then you are more than likely going to experience a greatly reduced appetite.  The problem is that in the West, you will probably spend a small fortune only to find you aren't getting the product you should.

So if you are looking for foods that can help you shed the fat from your belly, you can certainly try the above faddy foods, however you won't necessarily get better results compared to just eating healthily.  Snaking on the Acai and Goji berries along with adding Kelp to your cooking probably will be pretty good for you.  But don't expect to wake up the next morning with the perfectly flat stomach you always dreamed of.  Instead, you should learn as much as you can about proper health and nutrition along with doing exercises.  It might not sound as exciting but it will be much better for you in the long run.

What Foods Help You Lose Weight?

Written by April

It seems that nearly everyone in the Western world wants to lose at least some weight.  Every magazine you pick up has a plethora of different diet tips claiming to help you lose x amount of weight in x amount of time or they'll tell you about some super duper new super food that has 10 times more antioxidants than the new super food releaved last month.  It's all getting pretty ridiculous really.  Let's just get back to basics why don't we?

The foods we eat today are largely because we've been brought up on it.  In Japan a lot of people eat seaweed however for someone living in America or Europe eating seaweed is pretty strange and takes some getting used to.  That is if you can even buy it locally.  Therefore we end up eating basics like bread, milk, cheese and potatoes.  The problem is that many of these foods aren't really all that good for us which is why we live in a nation full of obese people.

There are little changes you can make in your diet that can drastically increase your chances of losing weight but it won't require any dramatic alterations to your eating habits.

Change Pasta To Quinoa:  We tend to all eat a lot of pasta.  It's so simple, just stick it in a pan of boiling water and add heat up a jar of sauce.  A meal in no time at all.  However the problem with pasta is that it contains gluten and carbs that aren't very good for us.  A simple replacement for pasta is quinoa (pronounced keen-wa).  At first you might think that it's a type of grain however you'll find it interesting to learn that it is actually a seed from South America.

What's really fantastic about quinoa is that it contains roughly twice as much protein than rice and millet plus it has all the amino acids.  Not to mention the soluble and insoluble fiber which really helps to keep you regular.  There are loads of recipes on the internet that you can try and it's really easy to cook.  So if you're looking to lose weight, are vegetarian or gluten intolerant then you should buy some quinoa then next time you're doing your grocery shopping.

Change Potatoes To Sweet Potatoes:  If you've been doing any kind of reading up about the latest diets in recent years you'll know about the low GI or low GL diet.  Basically it's all about eating foods that release their sugars slowly rather than quickly.  This means that you won't get a spike of sugar in your blood and will feel energized.  Many diabetics are advised to adhere to this type of diet too.

Anyway, if you've been eating large amounts of potatoes in the form of chips and fries it's time to switch to the sweet potato.  Basically you can cook the two types of potato in much the same way but you'll gain the benefit of having the sugar released slowly, therefore helping with your weight loss efforts.

Sure you can try all these fancy different products that contain acai berries, goji berries, green tea and whatever else but ultimately you should simply look at making some small but significant changes to your diet.  Always try to eat proper foods and if you want to take green tea for fat burning benefits, just buy the tea bags.  Green tea is really tasty and not very expensive at all.  If you don't like the taste of green tea you should look for varieties with flavours in it such as lemon, mint or jasmine.  It's certainly a healthier alternative to sugary sodas!
