One of the most fun things about owning a home is adding in small, additional changes to the home which can both increase the value of the property, as well as make it look a lot more pleasing to the eye. Often times this can wind up costing much more cash than you’d like, but sometimes there are inexpensive changes to make that will easily fulfill the aforementioned wishes without a hassle. One of these little changes is adding in a wood screen door to the front entryway to the home.
One of the most unique aspects to the wooden screen doors is perhaps its biggest benefit total. I’m speaking of course as to how customizable the store can be as it can be carved with very specific designs in mind before purchasing. You can also select a plethora of woods to be you specifically on your door if you would like a customized to your liking. For instance, many very popular types of wood to use for the screen doors are mahogany, cedar, Douglas fir, poplar, and red oak as well. It is also important to note that while these are the most popular kinds of woods used, you can also request others as well.
There is also a very special benefit to a custom wood screen door for the pet owner. I can tell you how frustrating it is to have to get up in the middle of the night to let my cat out to use the bathroom. Fortunately, you can have your screen door customized to include a pet door at the bottom of it, allowing your animal two coming go whenever he pleases, freeing up your time that you would otherwise spend getting up to let him out.
With all things considered, a fine detailed wooden screen door which can be customized to match the exterior look of your home, can add a lot of elegance and character to the entry of your home. In addition to the positive aesthetics that will be improved with this purchase, your pets will also thank you as they can now have their own personal door to use whenever they want to come inside the house or leave it.
Specialty Gutter Cleaning
Written by Ruben DigaI think that most people have the idea when you say the words gutter cleaning. You need to climb up to your gutter system and scoop out any and all debris that might be clogging them. For this main part of the cleaning process you need to gutter cleaning essentials such as a ladder, a gutter scoop, a trash bag, and personal protective equipment like a mask and gloves. However, there are other areas of gutter the gutter system and cleaning these areas needs some special consideration.
One of the most overlooked gutter parts is the corners. There are actually two different types of corners, inside corners and outside corners. Inside corners are places where the roof line comes to an inward facing point. If you are traveling left down the roof line and then the roof line turns to the left, that is an inside corner. Outside corners are where the house comes to an outside facing point or a corner. If you are traveling left down the roof line and the roof line turns to the right, that is an outside corner. These areas are some of the easiest to clog because the width of the gutter system gets a little smaller. Inside corners are a particular problem because the roof often has a valley at these points and that is a great place for leaves and debris to end up. Then the pile slowly travels down the valley and into the gutters. Your regular gutter scoop might not work here so you should get something small or prepare to use your hands.
Another gutter part to consider is the seams. No gutter system is made of one continuous piece. Each system is made of several pieces and where they come together and are attached to one another is a seam. The seams are places where dirt and grime can get caked on and even work its way under one edge of the seam and start to make the outside of the gutter system look dirty. To clean in these areas you not only need regular gutter cleaning tools to scoop away the debris, but you need to scrub. That is why a gutter brush is important. A gutter brush is a round cylinder shaped brush that looks similar to a very fat test tube brush. It should have a handle that starts out at a ninety degree angle to the brush and then turns another ninety degrees where you hold it so that you hand is not getting stuck in the gutters.
Finally, you need to consider the downspouts. These are the parts of the gutter system that carry the water from the roof line down the side of the house and away from the foundation. You cannot scoop debris out of your downspouts because they are completely enclosed. Instead, you should test them by putting water down the top with the garden hose and making sure a similar amount of water flows out the bottom at a similar speed and in a reasonable amount of time. If you determine there is a clog, then you should try to see where it is with a flashlight. Then, you will have to take apart the downspout at the closest seam so that you can reach the clog.
How to Care for Your Copper Farm Sink
Written by Ruben DigaIf you have design a traditional country kitchen one of the components may be a copper farm sink. A farm sink is a style where the front of the sink is exposed rather than being hidden behind a cabinet. They are typically very deep sinks with only one or maybe two basins. They are also unique in that they are usually constructed of heavy materials like porcelain, marble, or copper. You will not find very many authentic farm sinks made of fiberglass. Copper is particularly authentic. If you have chosen a copper farm sink then you have chosen something that it not only beautiful now, but will age beautifully so that you have something spectacular for years to come. However, you need to care for the sink properly in order for that to be true.
One of the unique properties of copper is that it does not degrade over time, but chemical reactions with the air will change the color of the copper slightly over time. The color darkens from a bright and shiny copper to something more rust colored, then sage, and then a turquoise green. This color change is called a patina. If you are not interested in the color change and you want to keep your copper sink bright and shiny then you will need to apply special waxes to the surface occasionally. If you do like the patina then there really is not much you need to do to keep your sink in tip top condition.
Unlike other sink materials, copper is not porous so you do not have to worry about bacteria or mold growing in the cracks and pores of the sink. All you need to worry about is wiping down the surface. My routine is to wipe the sink down with soapy water after I am done using it for the day. Then I just rinse away the soap with a stream of hot water. After cleaning and rinsing your sink, the only other thing to worry about is how to keep water spots off copper sinks. Water spots are a problem, so wipe down the sink with a dry towel or paper towel after cleaning to avoid them.
If you are trying to get the green patina on your copper, there are some things to be careful of because it is not indestructible. Acidic things like lemon or other citrus juices can remove the patina. If this happens to you just give the sink time, the patina will come back. It might not be completely uniform with the rest of the sink coloring, but that is part of what makes it unique. Nevertheless, it is good practice to rinse your sink immediately if you have citrus juice in there.
Simple, sleek lines, modern lighting, clever space saving solutions and new technology have given modern kitchens big-splash appeal in the contemporary design world. The new world kitchen is no longer merely a space where the family cook prepares and sizzles food. Now, kitchens must meet a multi-purpose function and give home owners a comfortable space to cook, entertain, have quality family time before school or work and escape daily routines to have a meditation moment with a cup of herbal tea.
Technology has upgraded modern kitchen designs and made kitchen life – and cooking life – a lot easier to manage. With a few intuitive guesses (for most people), kitchen appliances like stoves, refrigerators, microwaves and dishwashers can do the work for us while we prop up our feet and take a rest. A one-touch decision could help you have speedy clean-ups or create a meal in no time at all. “Smart” kitchens give the modern world that option: to walk away with confidence after the push of a button.
Clutter no longer has a place on the countertop or cabinet top with modern kitchen cabinets. After selecting almost any kind of wood stain imaginable (or cooper or stainless steel), home owners can decide how they want to use cabinet space and design storage according to their individual needs.
Cabinets can do more than merely pull out. They can be custom fit to rotate or flip out of the cabinet space, and they can accommodate twice as much storage than imagined. The size of doors means nothing in the modern world. You must actually open a cabinet door to see what lurks on the other side. To allow for more individual tastes, modern kitchens can come with slide-in panels made of completely different material than the cabinet. Frosted glass, rice paper and bamboo have been used to make some otherwise dull modern kitchens really pop.
Modern kitchen furniture has also changed over time to serve several functions. High dining tables, seating in windows, gathering tables, small wine coolers and kitchen islands have become the focal points that give modern kitchens their glamour and tranquility.
If we take a look at kitchen islands, it is easy to see how the function of furniture in the kitchen has evolved. Once exclusive prep centers for food, the modern kitchen island now fulfills a host of functions for the kitchen. It can serve as storage space for extra dishes, cutlery, large pots and pans and cooking utensils. It also can serve as counter space for the cook to have company while the meal is being prepared.
The opulent ornamental woods that used to dominate kitchen themes in the past have been replaced by smaller dining and breakfast nook furniture. These sleeker pieces of furniture use more materials like granite, glass, metals, ceramic tiles and stone – all of which really bring more value to modern kitchens. The opportunity to mix and match materials makes it possible to use any combination to arrive at your own style.
In leaner economic times, a budget may be the single driving force that determines how much of an investment you can make in most modern kitchens. Often, though, it is functionality that matters most. A kitchen must be able to accommodate all the needs of a family by being durable, comfortable and efficient. This makes the kitchen the one place in a house that is all about peace of mind.
How To Clean Carpets The Easy Way
Written by WakiWhen you do kitchen remodeling, never lay aside the importance of your carpet flooring. Although carpets belong to the floor and are made basically to be messed up, it still enhances the beauty of the floor. That is one sorry fact a carpet owner needs to accept, willingly or otherwise. Others even restrict footwear on their carpet flooring, yet, their carpets still get dirty.
However, if you wish to keep your carpet flooring looking its best for as long as possible, there are easy and effective methods in doing it. And you only need to maintain a regular schedule of general carpet cleaning to ensure its looks and its cleanliness as well. It will even prevent the reproduction of germs and bacteria in your house, making it a healthier place to live in. Below are some helpful do-it-yourself carpet care tips.
General Carpet Care
• In choosing a carpet, pick one that has been treated with soil resistant chemicals. It is easier to maintain.
• Do not wait for your carpets to get really dirty. Vacuum it frequently to diminish its wear and tear, especially in high traffic areas.
• Use a vacuum with a better brush which can be either an upright or a cylinder tank with a power nozzle. The brush loosens dirt from the carpet fibers and makes it easier for the vacuum to suck the dirt away.
• Pick up any visible debris and small items on the carpet before you begin in vacuuming it. The hose or belt could get damaged if the vacuum sucks them in.
• Vacuum with slow, even and overlapping parallel strokes.
• Always start from the bottom and work up when vacumming carpeted stairs.
• To prevent discoloring of carpets, cover carpet areas around and under furniture legs and bases before polishing furniture.
• To prevent permanent stains and dark patches on the carpet, any spillage should be cleaned up at once.
• Deep-clean carpet at least once a year. You can either do it on your own using a commercial carpet cleaner following the instructions of the manufacturer or call a professional carpet cleaner.
• Definitely, an Oriental carpet has to be cleaned professionally because it usually has a hand-painted finish whose colors may run. You will need to hire carpet cleaning services for this.
• Indentations in the carpet can be raised by rubbing areas with the edge of a coin. Do so before wetting the carpet at cleaning time.
Removing Carpet Stains
• The rule of thumb is to treat any spill as soon as it happens, because difficult stains will leave unsightly marks if left to dry out.
• Liquid spills should be blotted out with paper towels or white cloth towel. Solid should be scraped away.
• Choose the stain remover which works best for your kind of carpet: acid (lemon juice and vinegar) for polyester and wool, and alkali (ammonia and borax) on cellulose, cotton, rayon and silk.
Treating Specific Carpet Stains
• Alcohol, soft drinks, fruit juices, wine - Blot the spill. Mix one teaspoon of liquid dish or fabric detergent with one quart of warm water and one teaspoon of white vinegar. Use this detergent-water-vinegar solution on the carpet. Rinse. Blot dry.
• Coffee, cream, ice cream, tea, milk - Treat as above mentioned, but apply a dry-cleaning solvent afterwards. Let the carpet dry and brush pile.
• Blood- Immediately apply cold water on the affected area before blotting. Repeat if necessary. If stain still remains stubborn, treat with coffee spills.
• Feces, urine and vomit - Scrape up or blot the spill, whichever is applicable. Apply detergent-water-vinegar solution, rinse and dry.
• Ball pen ink - Use a clean cloth moistened with dry cleaning solvent or paint thinner to rub the stain with. Work on it using clean areas of the cloth until the stain is gone.
• Candle wax - Cover with brown paper or paper towel. Run a warm iron over so that the wax melts and is absorbed .Work on it until no trace of wax is left.
• Chewing gum - Remove as much as you can. Then use a dry-cleaning fluid or paint thinner to remove whatever is left.
• Grease and oil - Dip a cloth ball in paint thinner and dab affected area. Blot dry.
• Mud - Allow it to dry, then vacuum off. Apply denatured alcohol on the residual stain, and then treat with detergent-water-vinegar solution. Rinse. Let dry.
Although carpet cleaning may not be the most enjoyable task in the home, you cannot afford to ignore it. It will prove to be more costly than a regular maintenance would if your carpet wears out prematurely. Believe me, it is worth your time and effort.

Kitchen Remodeling - Factors You Must know
Written by WakiThere are many reasons for a person to consider before giving his kitchen a face lift. Fact is, apart from the bathroom and your plan to buy a new bathroom vanity, the kitchen is one of the most visible part and is one of the most frequented by traffic than any other room of your house.
When you step into your kitchen to cook, grab a bite or simply to take a drink but find yourself surrounded with clutters, you will realize that it is starting to become like a mess hall. And when it comes at this point, kitchen remodeling is in order. However, remodeling is not that easy and will involve a lot of planning and designing on your part to make your kitchen cozy but a functional part of your home. And if done right, it can in itself elevate the quality of living and increase the value of your home.
In drawing your kitchen remodel ideas, there are 4 important factors that you need to consider first before you start with your kitchen remodeling:
• Budget – Determine the amount you will be needing for your kitchen’s renovation. How much are you willing to spend for your kitchen lighting or for buying appliances like refrigerator, microwave, rangehood, etc.? Do you need to buy a new kitchen cabinet or is it more practical if you do kitchen cabinet refacing instead?
• Time – Plan ahead and find a temporary location for your kitchen somewhere else in your house. You see, a kitchen remodel takes some time to finish.
• Functionality – If you love to cook meals and move a lot around the kitchen, you would be needing a room that is both spacious and have a lot of workspace. But if you are a busy body that is always in a hurry and usually microwaves frozen foods or orders home deliveries, then a smaller kitchen is best for you, space and money saving wise.
• Design – Some people just copy the kitchen designs on glossy kitchen magazines without considering the style of their homes resulting to odd matches. Just like bathrooms, your kitchen design should match the style of your home to further enhance its beauty. There are many standard and discriminating kitchen designs that you can use for a kitchen remodel. Contemporary and traditional designs are sleek and simple, while country, Old World, and rustic kitchen designs give you more freedom to decorate and embellish.
During its planning stages, kitchen remodeling is fun and exciting especially if you have a design in mind that you want to apply. However, if you think you are not up to the task of making a good kitchen plan, never compromise or overestimate yourself. Hire a professional to help you in planning. Get the right measurements, check if all the kitchen remodel ideas you’ve made can be accommodated by the kitchen, and most of all, check your wallet if your planned kitchen remodeling is within your price limits.

Tips For Designing Small Kitchens
Written by Investor JimA bigger floor area definitely means a higher market value. For apartment units, condominiums, and houses, every square foot of floor area matters. This dictates its price among other factors such as location, accessibility to important establishments, and view. In a fast-paced world where everyone is virtually too busy to spend time cooking a hearty meal at home, kitchens are put at low priority for floor area allocation. This is almost always the case for commercial dwellings. Only those who can afford bigger houses and/or remodel their kitchen can truly enjoy a more spacious kitchen. But instead of sulking at this unfortunate reality, we should try to make do with what we have. A good design can transform your kitchen and make it look spacious and inviting.
Here are some tips for designing your small kitchen:
1. A small kitchen calls for small appliances. As much as possible, purchase the smaller version of the appliances you need in your kitchen such as microwave ovens, blenders, toaster, coffee maker, stove, refrigerator, etc. Opt for multi-function or compact appliances if you have to. This can save space and make your kitchen size more proportional to the things inside it.
2. Make use of the walls in your kitchen. Aside from mounting some kitchen appliances on them like the microwave oven, include cabinets and shelves for storage of your plates and supplies. Hooks can also be tastefully mounted on the walls for hanging cooking pans but I’d rather they be stored neatly inside the cabinets.
3. An island kitchen lay out is best for a small kitchen. The island serves a dual purpose as a working area on top and a storage area at the bottom. However, if the island is still too small for you to accommodate your chopping board, do not worry. Choose a chopping board that is wide enough to sit snuggly over your sink and you can do your chopping, dicing, slicing, and filleting on that space.
4. If you run out of space to store your large pans, you can install and rack that hangs from the ceiling just over your island. Install hooks on that rack and your pans can dangle freely from that. Make sure the rack is not too high that it becomes a burden to reach for your pans nor too low as the pans can hit you on the head while going about the kitchen.
5. Proper lighting can trick the eyes into believing that a space looks bigger. Install lights under the cabinets and the counter to create the illusion of a bigger space.
